Farewell to film director, screenwriter, and actor Paul Mazursky (1930-2014) who passed away Monday at the age of 84. Nominated for five Academy Awards, he is best known for his films I Love You, Alice B. Toklas (1968), Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969), An Unmarried Woman (1978), and Moscow on the Hudson (1984). Mazursky also made a memorable appearance as a juvenile delinquent in The Blackboard Jungle (1955). Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is his hand-signed  memoir Paul on Mazursky. Farewell to Shirley Temple Black (1928-2014) who died on Monday night at her home in Woodside, California at the age of 85. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this 8 x 10 inch heavy stock sepia tone photograph that has been hand-signed by the former child star and U.S. Ambassador best known for her roles in such films as Heidi (1937), A Little Princess (1939), and The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (1947). Extremely rare and highly desirable early signature and inscription to another child actress when Temple was only about 7 years old. Fine condition. Field Trip to Spectrum Fantastic Art Live 2 in Kansas City, MO

We had a blast at the second annual Spectrum Fantastic Art Live - a three-day celebration of the art and artists that bring to life worlds of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Organized by Cathy Fenner and Arnie Fenner - the team behind the annual Spectrum art showcase book - now in its 20th year of publication.

Our friend and Baby Tattoo publisher Bob Self is part of the jury panel for the Spectrum awards. So naturally, he brought his roadshow down through town to stop at the exhibition. Artists Coop, Gris Grimly, Ragnar (who has provided incredibly cool graphics for Collector's Shangri-La), and doll-maker Marina Bychkova, were all on hand to sign their books.

The Dancer and the Drum by Charles Vess from Moonheart by Charles de Lint

One of the highlights of the event for me was a presentation by illustrator and comic artist Charles Vess exploring the three major aesthetic themes that continue to influence the look of Fantastic Art today: British Fairy Tale Art, American Pulp Illustration, and European Visionary Art. I was lucky enough to purchase the incredible illustration above by Vess. It was published in the 20th anniversary edition of the fantasy novel Moonheart by Charles de Lint.

Collector's Treasure of the Day - Farewell Ray Harryhausen

Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger Lobby Card Signed by Ray Harryhausen

The special effects pioneer Ray Harryhausen died today in London at the age of 92. Mr. Harryhausen was awarded a special Oscar at 1992's Academy Awards Ceremony for his cinema magic that has spanned nearly five decades and includes such classics as The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, One Million Years B.C., and Jason and the Argonauts. He will be missed.

In his honor, we are showcasing this 11 x 14 inch color lobby card from the 1977 adventure film Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger which has been hand-signed in person by writer/producer/visual effects creator Ray Harryhausen.

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World Soundtrack LP Signed by Peter Falk, Edie Adams, Buddy Hackett, Jonathan Winters

The irreverent comedian Jonathan Winters died Thursday evening of natural causes at his home in Montecito, California. He will be missed.

In his honor, we are showcasing the soundtrack LP from his madcap 1963 film "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". This copy has been hand-signed by four of the film's late stars: Peter Falk (1927 - 2011), Edie Adams (1927 - 2008), Buddy Hackett (1924 - 2003), and Jonathan Winters (1925 - 2013).
