Happy birthday to Popeye the Sailor Man, created by cartoonist E. C. Segar. Popeye first appeared in the daily King Features comic strip Thimble Theatre on January 17, 1929. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this original Bud Sagendorf artwork for the daily Popeye strip featuring Popeye, Olive Oyl, Wimpy, and a robot, ink on artist's cardstock, 18 x 5.5 inches, May 13, 1963, signed in the final panel. Sagendorf (1915 - 1994) took over Popeye following the death of Segar in 1938.  Matted and framed (no glass) to an overall size of 21.75 x 9.25 inches. In fine condition. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this vintage 11 x 14 inch color lobby card from Robert Altman's 1980 musical-comedy Popeye. it has been hand-signed in person by stars Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall. During the making of Popeye, Duvall shared with Williams her collection of antique illustrated fairy tale books. She pictured Williams as the perfect "Frog Prince", and approached Showtime with her idea that later became the Emmy-nominated Faerie Tale Theatre in 1982.
