Today marks the birthday of author and social critic James Baldwin (1924-1987). Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this signed leather-bound limited edition of his first book, the 1953 semi-autobiographical novel Go Tell It on the Mountain. The Modern Library included it on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. Published by The Franklin Library. Fine condition. Remembering Norman Mailer - Collector's Treasure of the Day

Today marks the birthday of author Norman Mailer (1923-2007). Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is a leather-bound hand-signed limited edition copy of his first novel The Naked and the Dead (1948) published by The Franklin Library in 1979. It was based on his experiences in World War II. and was later adapted into a film of the same name in 1958. The Modern Library included The Naked and the Dead on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. Autographed on a bound-in page by author Mailer. Fine condition. Today marks the birthday of French playwright, philosopher, and Father of Existentialism, Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980). He refused his 1964 Nobel Prize in Literature as well as other official honors, explaining that "a writer should not allow himself to be turned into an institution". Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is the Franklin Library Edition of his book Five Plays. This volume includes the classics ''No Exit,'' ''The Flies,'' ''Dirty Hands,'' ''The Respectful Prostitute'' and ''The Condemned of Altona.''
