Happy birthday to actress and singer Jodi Benson, best known for providing both the speaking and the singing voice of Disney's Princess Ariel in The Little Mermaid (1989) and its sequels. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this full-color print of a background study by noted artist Chris Van Allsburg (The Polar Express) created during production of The Little Mermaid issued to promote its book Disney's The Little Mermaid: The Sketchbook. It is signed in gold ink in the bottom margin by the film's two directors, Ron Clements and John Musker, and Jodi Benson. 12.5 x 19 inches. Near Mint condition. Happy Star Wars Day! Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this Star Wars Holiday Special Stormtroopers Animation Production Cel Set-Up Original Art (Lucasfilm, 1978). The Stormtroopers come swooping in, in the set-up from scene 19-4 of the very first Star Wars spin-off. This infamous program was shown in its entirety only once, and introduced several elements of the Star Wars universe. This original hand-painted three cel set-up has an image area of 12 x 5.5 inches, placed over a 12.75 x 9.5 inches print background, and is in Fine condition. Includes a Lucasfilm sticker and COA from Sunday Funnies.

Happy birthday to animator Richard Williams, best known as animation director on Disney/Amblin's Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988), his unfinished feature film The Thief and the Cobbler, and the animated sequences of What's New, Pussycat? (1965), The Charge of the Light Brigade (1968), and two of the Pink Panther films. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this Who Framed Roger Rabbit? production cel set-up. Original hand-painted 12-field production cel of Roger Rabbit over a photo background of Bob Hoskins as Eddie Valiant. A great classic Roger pose, matted and framed to 18.5 x 13.5 inches with Disney seal on the lower left corner and original certificate on the back. In Fine condition. Today marks the birthday of animator Fred "Tex" Avery (1908-1980), best known for creating the characters of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Droopy (who co-stars in this film), and Screwy Squirrel. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this original final animation drawing of the escaped convict Wolf  from the MGM cartoon Northwest Hounded Police (1946) directed by Tex Avery. This cartoon was ranked 28th on Jerry Beck's list of The 50 Greatest Cartoons and 27th on Cartoon Network's own list of Greatest 50 Cartoons. Very Fine condition. Remembering Animation Pioneer Chuck Jones

Today marks the birthday of Chuck Jones (1912 - 2002), animator best known for his Warner Bros. Cartoons,  Tom and Jerry shorts, Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, and The Dot and the Line. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is The Dot and the Line Academy Award Presentation Display with Original Production Background. Directed by Chuck Jones and Maurice Noble, and produced by Jones for MGM, the ten-minute short was the winner of the Academy Award for Animated Short Film for 1965. This is an actual production background used in this film, in a 23 x 24 inch framed set-up with a recreated hand-painted cel of the line placed on the background for presentation purposes. A special Academy Award presentation matting showcases an image of Jones receiving his Oscar, as well as an image of the nomination certificate for the short. A unique and one of a kind set-up, accompanied by a letter of authenticity. In Excellent condition. From the Chuck Jones Family Collection. Farewell to Dickie Jones - Collector's Treasure of the Day

Farewell to actor Dickie Jones, who died at his home in Northridge, California on Monday at the age of 87. Starting as a child cowboy performer, Jones landed roles in the Our Gang comedies, the 1937 film Stella Dallas, and - as he is best remembered - the star in Walt Disney's second full-length feature, Pinocchio. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this 8 x 10 inch classic image from  Pinocchio which has been hand signed by Jones (1927-2014) and by Eddie Carroll (1933-2010) who had provided the voice of Jiminy Cricket since Cliff Edwards died in 1971. Happy birthday to animator Sally Cruikshank whose work includes short films for Sesame Street, and whose short Quasi at the Quackadero (1975) was inducted into the United States National Film Registry. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this production cel set-up including hand-painted background for her colorful, surrealistic film Face Like a Frog (1987). Gouache on 4 untrimmed animation cel sheets, 10.5 x 12.5 with an image size of approximately 9 x 12 inches. The film features music by Danny Elfman performed by Oingo Boingo (credited as The Mystic Knights). Hand-Signed by Sally Cruikshank. In Excellent condition. Remembering Mel Blanc - Collector's Treasure of the Day

Happy birthday to Mel Blanc (1908-1989), "the man of 1000 voices" best known as the voice of  Woody Woodpecker, Barney Rubble, and almost every character in the Warner Brothers cartoon cannon. I was privileged to meet Mr. Blanc several times in the 1980s, and he gave me the above photo on one of these occasions. Our Collector's Treasure of the day is this autographed two page promotional script for his memoir That's Not All Folks! The script features Mel performing the voice of his characters Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam, Pepe Le Pew, and Tweety in promoting his autobiography. Farewell to Bob Hoskins (1942-2014) who died yesterday at the age of 71. The British actor was best known for playing tough guys with big hearts, as in this original hand-painted 12-field production cel from Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988). Roger is shown over a photo background of Hoskins as Eddie Valiant. A classic shot, matted and framed to 18.5 x 13.5 inches with Disney seal on the lower left corner and original certificate on the back.

Remembering Carl Barks - Collector's Treasure of the Day

Today marks the birthday of Carl Barks (1901 - 2000), the Disney Studio illustrator and comic book creator who invented Duckburg and many of its inhabitants, such as Scrooge McDuck, the Beagle Boys, and Gyro Gearloose. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this set of two limited edition art prints of cartoons drawn by Carl Barks before he joined the Walt Disney Studio in 1935. Both are numbered "114/120" and signed in full by Carl Barks below the image. The set was published by Another Rainbow for the International Museum of Cartoon Art. Included are the Museum's numbered Certificate of Authenticity and envelope in which the set was distributed. On the back of each print is a label that states: "this drawing, submitted to Disney's in 1935 helped get me hired. Carl Barks." Blue and black ink on two 10.5 x 14inch heavyweight paper sheets. Happy birthday to cartoonist Matt Groening, best known as the creator of the comic strip Life in Hell (1977–2012) and the television series The Simpsons (1989–present) and Futurama (1999–2003, 2008–2013). Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this signed limited edition lithograph commemorating the 20th anniversary and final concerts of his band The Rock Bottom Remainders.  The rock and roll band consisted of popular authors including Groening whose concerts raised millions of dollars for charity. The band took its self-mocking name from the publishing term "remaindered book," a work of which the unsold remainder of the publisher's stock of copies is sold at a reduced price.  The caricature of the band was created in 2003 by Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist David Horsey and is signed by members Stephen King, Amy Tan, Dave Barry, Scott Turow, Mitch Albom, Greg Iles, Matt Groening, Roy Blount Jr., James McBride, Ridley Pearson, Sam Barry and Kathi Kamen Goldmark. Today marks the birthday of Walt Disney (1901-1966), animation pioneer and founder of Disney Studios and Theme Parks. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this limited edition book, Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse in Color signed by Carl Barks (1901 - 2000) and Floyd Gottfredson (1905 - 1986). Barks was an American Disney Studio illustrator and comic book creator who invented Duckburg and many of its inhabitants, such as Scrooge McDuck, the Beagle Boys, and Gyro Gearloose.
