Happy birthday to Popeye the Sailor Man, created by cartoonist E. C. Segar. Popeye first appeared in the daily King Features comic strip Thimble Theatre on January 17, 1929. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this original Bud Sagendorf artwork for the daily Popeye strip featuring Popeye, Olive Oyl, Wimpy, and a robot, ink on artist's cardstock, 18 x 5.5 inches, May 13, 1963, signed in the final panel. Sagendorf (1915 - 1994) took over Popeye following the death of Segar in 1938.  Matted and framed (no glass) to an overall size of 21.75 x 9.25 inches. In fine condition. Happy birthday to Charles M. Schulz (1922 - 2000), best known for his comic strip Peanuts and its cast of characters (including the timeless Snoopy and Charlie Brown). He is widely regarded as one of the most influential cartoonists of all time. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this superb original hand-inked three-panel Peanuts daily comic strip, dated March 4, 1996, on an off-white 20.75 x 7 sheet of artist's cardstock. Panel features Snoopy, Woodstock, and Linus, with Snoopy appearing in all three panels as a pirate, with Woodstock on his shoulder. Signed vertically in black ink in the last panel, "Schulz," and also signed and inscribed in black felt tip in the top border, "For Chris with friendship and appreciation - Charles M. Schulz." Accompanied by a copy of a letter from Schulz presenting the strip. In fine condition. A pristine example featuring one of Schulz's best loved characters in costume. Today marks the birthday of Milton Caniff (1907 - 1988), legendary cartoonist famous for the Terry and the Pirates and Steve Canyon comic strips. Caniff was also one of the founders and former president of the National Cartoonists Society (I'm proud to be a member), and was inducted into the comic book industry's Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1988. Our Collector's Treasure is this Terry and the Pirates "Hot-Shot Charlie" Mask Ad Prototype Original Art (1953). Prototype artwork for a Canada Dry giveaway, originally from the Gordon Gold advertising archives. Today marks the birthday of Walt Disney (1901-1966), animation pioneer and founder of Disney Studios and Theme Parks. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this limited edition book, Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse in Color signed by Carl Barks (1901 - 2000) and Floyd Gottfredson (1905 - 1986). Barks was an American Disney Studio illustrator and comic book creator who invented Duckburg and many of its inhabitants, such as Scrooge McDuck, the Beagle Boys, and Gyro Gearloose. Gottfredson was an American cartoonist best known for his defining work on the Mickey Mouse comic strip. Prescott, AZ: Another Rainbow Publishing, [1988]. Special edition limited to 3,000 copies, this being number 992, signed by Floyd Gottfredson and Carl Barks; with a picture disc containing an interview with Gottfredson and Barks conducted in the spring of 1983. Schulz (1922-2000), my favorite comic strip artist and the creator of the world of Peanuts, including Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, and the rest of the gang. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this full-color Peanuts limited edition lithograph on Italian Watercolor paper depicting Charlie Brown and a joyful Snoopy. It is titled "A Friend Is Someone Who Takes Off The Leash" and has been hand-signed by Schulz in a numbered edition of 500. Published in 1993. Mint 18 x 18 inch print in fine 27 x 27 inch frame.
