Happy birthday to Mel Blanc (1908-1989), "the man of 1000 voices" best known as the voice of  Woody Woodpecker, Barney Rubble, and almost every character in the Warner Brothers cartoon cannon. I was privileged to meet Mr. Blanc several times in the 1980s, and he gave me the above photo on one of these occasions. Our Collector's Treasure of the day is this autographed two page promotional script for his memoir That's Not All Folks! The script features Mel performing the voice of his characters Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam, Pepe Le Pew, and Tweety in promoting his autobiography. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is his original preliminary pencil cover art for Alias the Cat, a graphic novel published by Pantheon Books in 2007. It originally appeared as a three-issue comic book in 2002 as The Stuff of Dreams from Fantagraphics Books. The story features Deitch himself alongside his best-known creation, Waldo the Cat, and Alias the Cat. Alias appeared in 1915 in a comic strip and a serial film, as well as in real life as a freedom-fighting superhero, and then mysteriously disappears! 8.5 x 11 inches and Fine condition. Giger's classic collections, the Necronomicon and Necronomicon II in a single leatherbound luxury edition. Today marks the birthday of four-time Academy Award-winning actress Katharine Hepburn (1907 - 2003), named by the American Film Institute as the greatest female star in Hollywood history. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is the historic International Vaccination Certificate issued to Hepburn for her journey to Africa in May 1951 to make the classic adventure film The African Queen with Humphrey Bogart. The front is filled out by Katharine Hepburn with her home address and other personal information and signed twice "Katharine Hepburn." Farewell to comic artist Dick Ayers (1924-2014), who passed away on Sunday at his home in NY less than a week after his 90th birthday. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this wonderful recreation by Ayers of the cover art for Avengers #1. Ayers was the original inker for the classic cover, so this is just about as close as a collector is likely to get to the fantasy of hanging this grail on their wall. Thor, Iron Man, the Hulk, Ant-Man, and the Wasp came together as the "Earth's Mightiest Super-Heroes" in battle against the power of Loki for the very first time in this historic image and it is among the most recognizable images of Marvel's Silver Age. Ayers was one of the most prolific artists at Marvel during the explosion of the early 1960s, not only acting as one of the primary inkers on Jack Kirby's pencils, but also producing his own art on runs like the Human Torch series in Strange Tales. This art is signed by Ayers in the lower margin and has an image area of approximately 12 x 18 inches. Excellent condition. COA.

Farewell to EC's Al Feldstein - Collector's Treasure of the Day

Tales of Terror #2 Revisited Original Painting by Al Feldstein (personal collection)

Farewell to Al Feldstein (1925-2014), longtime editor of MAD Magazine, and contributing artist, writer, and editor for most of the EC Comics titles in the 1940s and 1950s. Feldstein passed away Tuesday at his home in Montana. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this deluxe limited edition set of EC Archives: Weird Science #1 and 2 (Gemstone, 2007). Leather covered hardcover editions with gilt edging. Volume 1 reprints the first six issues in color and is signed by Al Feldstein. Volume 2 reprints the second six issues in color and is signed by Al Williamson (1931-2010). Each volume comes in a cloth-covered box with a pair of white gloves; in original cardboard packing.
