But the Buddy Bradley saga is only a small part of Bagge's oeuvre, which saw its first glory days in R. Crumb's Weirdo Magazine (which he edited for several issues) and continues to expand to this day as he appears in Reason and MAD Magazine. Farewell to Mickey Rooney (1920-2014), one of the last surviving stars who worked in the silent film era, and the only actor to have performed in every decade from the 1920s on. Rooney passed away today at the age of 93. He is perhaps best remembered for his title role in the Andy Hardy film series from the 1930s through 1950s. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this 8 x 10 inch black and white photo from the 1961 film Everything's Ducky which has been hand signed by stars Rooney and Buddy Hackett (1924 - 2003). Remembering Carl Barks - Collector's Treasure of the Day

Before He Became the Duck Man Set of Two Limited Edition Prints Autographed by Carl Barks

Today marks the birthday of Carl Barks (1901 - 2000), the Disney Studio illustrator and comic book creator who invented Duckburg and many of its inhabitants, such as Scrooge McDuck, the Beagle Boys, and Gyro Gearloose. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this set of two limited edition art prints of cartoons drawn by Carl Barks before he joined the Walt Disney Studio in 1935. Both are numbered "114/120" and signed in full by Carl Barks below the image. The set was published by Another Rainbow for the International Museum of Cartoon Art. Included are the Museum's numbered Certificate of Authenticity and envelope in which the set was distributed. On the back of each print is a label that states: "this drawing, submitted to Disney's in 1935 helped get me hired. Carl Barks." Blue and black ink on two 10.5 x 14inch heavyweight paper sheets. Happy birthday to magician and escapologist Harry Houdini (1874-1926). Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this skeleton key from Houdini's personal collection. The key is mounted, framed and glazed. Originally billed as "The Handcuff King," significant portion of Harry Houdini's early repertoire involved escaping from various sets of handcuffs (and other restraints) presented to him by challengers; he eventually expanded the act to include escapes from jail cells, locked canvas mailbags, crates tossed in rivers, and other such scenarios. The key was obtained from the estate of famous key and lock collector Paul Harter who originally purchased Houdini's locks and keys from Houdini's brother Hardeen. In fine condition. Framed display is approximately 15 x 16 inches. Authenticity guaranteed for life by Collector's Shangri-La plus RR Auction COA.
