Travis Louie is a revered figure in the contemporary art movement known as pop surrealism. His imaginary world is grounded in Victorian and Edwardian times and inhabited by human oddities, mythical beings, and otherworldly characters. Each portrait (in this case, Ornamental Boogie Man and Gardening Boogie Man) is accompanied by biographical or anecdotal text that encourages the viewer to look past the physical. These intimate revelations are what differentiate Louie’s strange visitors from everyday strangers encountered in the real world, whose individual oddities are either up for interpretation or stowed neatly out of sight. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this "Stars of Country Music" 24 x 30 inch artist proof which has been hand-signed by eighteen country-western music legends against the background of a superbly rendered gold record: Roy Acuff, Don Gibson, Ferlin Husky, Sonny James, Grandpa Jones, Minnie Pearl, Webb Pierce, Johnny Rodriguez, T. G. Shepard, The Statler Brothers (4 signatures), Hank Thompson, Porter Wagoner, Slim Whitman and Faron Young. The poster was produced in 1981 by the company Art Merchant. In Very Fine Condition. The edition was to have contained 1,000 numbered prints and 100 artist's proofs, but a snowstorm in Nashville curtailed the signing, with only 700 or so of the prints completed.
