Remembering Norman Mailer - Collector's Treasure of the Day

Today marks the birthday of author Norman Mailer (1923-2007). Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is a leather-bound hand-signed limited edition copy of his first novel The Naked and the Dead (1948) published by The Franklin Library in 1979. It was based on his experiences in World War II. and was later adapted into a film of the same name in 1958. The Modern Library included The Naked and the Dead on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. Autographed on a bound-in page by author Mailer. Fine condition. Today marks the birthday of English writer and mathematician Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832 – -1898), better known by his pen name, Lewis Carroll. His most famous books are Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this original illustration of "Shrinking Alice" from page 23 of the 1929 edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Willy Pogany (1882-1955). The prolific Hungarian-born artist  modernized Alice with a whimsical "Art Nouveau" flair and his charming illustration demonstrates the effects of the bottle marked "Drink Me". Karate Kid and Mary Tyler Moore Show Casts Reunite at the Hollywood Show

A couple of special moments we witnessed within the first few minutes of the Hollywood Show convention this past weekend in Los Angeles: The Karate Kid's Ralph Macchio reuniting with Martin Kove (the film's villian) plus Ed Asner meeting up with Gavin MacLeod (both starred in The Mary Tyler Moore Show). The latter seemed to bring tears to the eyes of a few bystanders.
