Happy birthday to Popeye the Sailor Man, created by cartoonist E. C. Segar. Popeye first appeared in the daily King Features comic strip Thimble Theatre on January 17, 1929. Our Collector's Treasure of the Day is this original Bud Sagendorf artwork for the daily Popeye strip featuring Popeye, Olive Oyl, Wimpy, and a robot, ink on artist's cardstock, 18 x 5.5 inches, May 13, 1963, signed in the final panel. Sagendorf (1915 - 1994) took over Popeye following the death of Segar in 1938.  Matted and framed (no glass) to an overall size of 21.75 x 9.25 inches. In fine condition. Authenticity guaranteed for life by Collector's Shangri-La.
